I may only have one child, parenting is still new to me, it will be probably forever new to me, but I know one thing for certain, I will always be a parent to my child.
Before josh and I married, we spoke of how we would raise our kids, some may have thought this was silly, but I know that we will never fight about this issue.
I will never tell someone how to raise their kids, I may be new to parenting, but I am not stupid. I will however have my own opinions and thoughts on what is necessary to raise children with the tools they need to live their own lives.
We have vowed to save money for Jordan, even though it may not be much, he will have a little something for college. He will also get a car when he is 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 because he will be working and saving his money to get a car that josh and I will approve of. By that time, maybe we could even match what he saves so he can get a better car, but that's down the road. Whether Jordan is stellar at school or so-so, we will make sure he does well by providing the tools, ie tutors, incentives, study aids, to assist in his efforts. If he wants to play sports, great- but he will not half-ass anything. If he does the right thing in life, he will be rewarded.
Not monetarily or with frivolous things, but with the satisfaction of hard work and motivation to succeed. You do not have to be a genius to be successful, you have to have drive.
The current generation where norm is sweet 16 parties that cost more than my mortgage and their insane gifts of BMWs, makes me ill. No one works hard anymore, they don't have to, because mommy and daddy put a second mortgage on their house for a wedding, car or Gucci bag. Anything to buy their kids' love.
I promise to teach Jordan about good credit, responsible spending, saving, college, relationships, how to shop for things, couponing, cooking( well josh can teach that) and everything else he will need to know to make sound decisions that he can use to lead his future family one day. And besides, I surely don't want a 30 year old bum sleeping in my basement one day.
