The cold didn't even begin to break the ice

I am so proud to see people of all ages doing the #als ice bucket challenge. Especially when I saw my mom do it today!  Yeah, sure there are some downers that won't donate because they think it's just about the ice water and 20 seconds in front of a camera. I will tell you after this awesome internet phenomenon, that even if you didn't donate, you probably helped the cause. I thank you. These families with loved ones suffering from this thank you, too.  The few celebs that refused for whatever reason, they helped too. They all raised awareness with their likeness, tweets, blogs, and posts. I'm sure ALS has been googled more times in the past few weeks than it has in the past decade. Thank you, too. This disease is ugly. Two families I personally know, that have gone through some pretty horrid experiences watching their husbands, dads, sons, sisters, brothers, wives slowly (sometimes aggressively) slip away, and it has always baffled me. Watching a normal 30-something ma...

I didn't feel like waving either.

My dear neighbor mom-friend: don't feel bad that you didn't wave at me as I drove down the block. I saw your hands full of groceries. I knew you were trying to carry every last bag so you didn't have to make two trips.  And you know what, don't feel bad that you don't want me to realize your kids are sleeping in the car while you bring the groceries in, as I see the car is still running.  I always wonder who will call the cops when I do it, too. Dear down-the-street- mom-friend: don't feel guilty for not inviting my kids to your kids' birthday parties. It really is ok. We have so many things we can do together without the formality of a party and presents.  Speaking of presents: I really wanted to bake you something for moving to the neighborhood 4 years ago... But I forgot. But please know, the intention was there.  Dear fellow mom: thank you for watching my kids even though I know your plans weren't involving my sweeties. I hope you don't regret gi...

I just did my job.

I sell flooring. Not really glamorous. But I like it. I like seeing people get something new and fresh for their home. Even if they are putting a new floor in to sell it, they have a sense of pride when they pick out carpet, tile, or whatever it may be.  I had a customer that came in to buy one small room of flooring for a concrete mudroom. It had some older carpet down that wasn't the most beautiful.  As we got to talking I found out that she is selling to join her husband who is working in a warm, sunshiny state. She is already retired. I told her that I was jealous of her move and the fresh flooring would definitely help her sell faster once she was ready. She also decided to add carpet to the living room and dining room. So I measured up the areas. She followed me back to the store to find a remnant. She called for a reused friend and designer to help her out as well.  After a good couple of hours vested in this sweet customer we had everything picked out, install set...

selection. election. rejection. libertarian?

After a lengthy phone call to find out why I am not a registered voter anymore, I finally found out when and where I can go to register in McHenry County. Phew, good thing, because I may actually vote this year... maybe. I have always said I am either a very conservative democrat or a liberal republican (my teen/college years I claimed to be a democrat, dont think bad of me.) Now, as I am older, perhaps wiser... I still claim that I am a conservative democrat or liberal republican. I would almost say libertarian... and I can feel the discussion now... I am a little scared to see what can happen when government controls everything. I think we are headed that way. I like to think that hard work paid off so that we can still pay for our very expensive benefits so we may choose the best doctors, which I have a hell of a time getting appointments already... hopefully you see my point. I do not agree with abortion, just to have an abortion. Therefore, I will not do it. Those who choose...

burritos and fajitas.

YUM! I had a nice holiday weekend. I got to spend Sunday with my sweet little family at the Apple Orchard in 90 degree weather... I loved every minute of it, including wiping the sweat from by boys' brows. Despite the sweltering heat, we did polish off a bag of donuts and of course a half gallon of Cider. I am surprised we did not get ill from all the sugar! I found the clearance section and scored some CUTE fall decor, I think that may be an addiction... After the Orchard, we headed into town to look at all the home improvement stores, and just as I thought... everything we needed was too expensive while everything we wanted was sold out. Good, because I went home and did some online shopping...another addiction... Visited Kohls.com, found a patio set we wanted- used a gift card, 25% off, earned $40 Kohls cash and our patio set will be here in a couple of days... why cant all shopping be this easy?! I am pretty excited for our set to arrive, we have not had patio furniture ...

Purging...chaos.

In efforts to keep my house from looking like a storyline from a TLC show about Hoarding, I started going through my piles of clothes. Dozens of dress pants, jeans, hoodies, blouses, and shit that has tags on it still, strewn about my walk-in (yes, walk in closet that has more clothes that I actually wear, waiting in piles to go in and be put away- looks like the line for the soup kitchen on a cold, winter day.) Now, I may not be a fine example of organized, but I do know where everything is, well, sort of. My goal by the end of fall is to have no clutter, no clothes that I "may" wear again, not piles of papers that I just don't know what to do with and to have everything labeled so I can find it. I first started this project in my car a few weeks ago. There were things in my tiny Corolla from our wedding three years ago and from 2006 when I traveled to Tennessee for work, 4 jobs ago. It didn't have a place in our house, so it made a home in my trunk. Upon finding ...
